Featuring Michigan Based Social Enterprises
Social Enterprises serve as pivotal agents of change, adeptly addressing pressing social challenges while simultaneously fostering job creation, spurring economic advancement, and fortifying community resilience. They are revenue-generating businesses with a mission, using their profits and business practices to address a societal need.
Social enterprises focus on generating revenue from goods and services, not just grants, donations, or exclusive reliance on publicly funded services. They encompass a diverse range of forms, including non-profits, cooperatives, and for-profit businesses, that integrate social or community goals into their core mission. Though these enterprises can take many forms across many industries, they ultimately exist to serve the common good.
The Center for Social Enterprise Development is a collaboration between Incompass Michigan and the Small Business Association of Michigan focused on launching and growing social enterprises across the state. Currently, 29 Michigan based organizations are participating in a pilot cohort of the Social Enterprise Collective which provides grant based training, technical assistance, direct funding, and marketing support.
Shopping with the social enterprises in this Holiday Shopping Guide, means your support helps to tackle societal issues, empower marginalized communities, and promote sustainable development. Thank you!
