MMI Integrating One Person at a Time
Mid Michigan Industries, Inc. (MMI) along with Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) and the Montcalm Care Network began brainstorming almost three years ago on an employment idea.
Here we are three years later and participants of MMI’s Community Employment Program are now responsible for completing all Latex Gluing for the PCA-Edmore plant.
It began in May with a few people and because it has gone so well, PCA discontinued using their Temporary Employment service that they had been using and expanded the number of participants from MMI. Today, over 20 participants are now employed. MMI continues to provide a Job Coach for each shift. We also assist with transportation as there is presently no public transportation available in Montcalm county. Participants work a variety of schedules. PCA has allowed for shifts to be broken up into smaller segments to accommodate those participating.
This opportunity not only provides training and employment for people at PCA, but it has also launched six individuals into other employment opportunities. Two in fast food operations, two working as part of a grounds crew and two in manufacturing. MMI hopes to model this integrative program with other businesses and are excited about future opportunities this will provide the people of Mid-Michigan.
MMI is a non-profit community rehabilitation organization that enriches lives through employment, training and community access in Clare, Isabella, Gratiot, Montcalm, Ionia and Mecosta Counties. MMI is a proud member of United Way and is CARF Accredited.
